... and of course in handy single packs of 12 Heatabix logs from your local retailer.
New Heatabix, heat rich logs are made exclusively from clean, recycled
timber that would otherwise go in to landfill, or be burned in an uncontrolled
manner. No trees are directly felled to produce them.
Heatabix, are uniquely made by moulding dried sawdust and shavings from a blend of mainly hard wood (beech) with a small amount of spruce to ensure the correct balance between high heat output and slow burn time.
Each wood briquette is held together by one of the natural components of wood, Lignin. This is released during pressing, initially in a liquid form due to the high temperatures caused by pressure. When cooled the lignin solidifies and binds the raw materials together in their new shape. The process does not use any adhesives or chemical binders.
Heatabix are therefore a completely clean organic bio-fuel.
Heatabix have another outstanding quality; during burning they
release only the same amount of carbon dioxide as the tree absorbed during
its growing time. The carbon dioxide balance is neutral unlike gasses released
from burning fossil fuels; these are associated with the “Greenhouse
effect” and climate change.
Each Heatabix briquette will burn for between one to five hours or more depending on your appliance and heat required. Heatabix are very dry, containing less than ten percent moisture in comparison to normal seasoned timber that is at least twenty five percent water. They have a consistent heat output measured at 4.9 kilowatt hours per kilo.
Burning dry wood produces less smoke and results in fewer chimney deposits, nor do they spark or spit. The ash content of Heatabix is very low, less than 0.5 percent at 5 kilograms per tonne and can be safely used as a garden fertiliser.
A Heatabix 10Kg pack has 12 briquettes, the pack measures 30x28x13cm and has a handy single use carry handle. Each Heatabix briquette is about 10x7x16cm. Kept dry, they will last a long time without loss of quality.
